Have you noticed that you feel different when the seasons begin to shift?
Maybe your energy changes before you've even consciously acknowledged the transition.
You might feel more tired.
More emotional.
Restless.
Less motivated.
Or perhaps you suddenly feel an urge to clean your house, change your routines, spend more time alone, or reevaluate parts of your life that once felt comfortable.
We often talk about seasonal changes as something happening around us.
The temperature shifts.
The days become shorter or longer.
Nature begins a new cycle.
But we are part of nature too.
And whether we realize it or not, seasonal transitions can affect our bodies, our nervous systems, our emotions, and our sense of energy.

What Happens to the Body When Seasons Change?

Our bodies are constantly responding to our environment.
Changes in daylight, temperature, routines, activity levels, and sleep patterns can all influence how we feel.
During seasonal transitions, some people may notice:
  • Changes in sleep
  • Fluctuations in energy
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Shifts in appetite
  • Feeling more tired or restless
  • Increased sensitivity to stress
  • Changes in mood
  • A desire for more solitude
  • Difficulty adjusting to new routines
For some, the transition feels energizing.
For others, it can feel disruptive.
And if your nervous system is already carrying stress, overwhelm, or exhaustion, even subtle environmental changes can feel like one more thing your system has to adapt to.
This doesn't mean there is something wrong with you.
It may simply mean your body is asking for your attention.

But What About Our Own Internal Seasons?

There is another kind of seasonal change happening too.
The one happening within you.
Sometimes you are in a season of growth.
Everything feels expansive. Ideas are flowing. Energy is available. You feel ready to move forward.
Sometimes you're in a season of harvest.
You're beginning to recognize what you've created, what you've learned, and what is finally ready to be received.
And sometimes...
You're in a season of release.
A relationship no longer fits.
A role you've played feels exhausting.
An old identity is beginning to unravel.
Things that once worked no longer seem to work.
This can be uncomfortable because we often assume something needs to be fixed.
But not every uncomfortable season is a problem.
Sometimes, you are simply changing.

What Might Seasonal Change Feel Like Energetically?

From an energetic perspective, transitions can bring old patterns and unresolved emotions closer to the surface.
You may feel:
Restless — as though something needs to change, even if you're not sure what.
Heavy — carrying emotions, responsibilities, or expectations that no longer belong to you.
Scattered — struggling to focus because your internal energy feels pulled in too many directions.
Emotionally sensitive — things that normally wouldn't bother you suddenly feel much bigger.
Disconnected — questioning your purpose, relationships, or direction.
Called inward — wanting more quiet, reflection, rest, or solitude.
Ready to release — feeling an urge to clear physical spaces, emotional attachments, or outdated patterns.
Energetically, these experiences don't necessarily mean you are “blocked.”
Sometimes energy is simply moving.
And movement can feel uncomfortable when we are accustomed to holding ourselves still.

The Question Isn't Always, “How Do I Get Back to Normal?”

This is the question I want to invite you to consider during this seasonal transition:
What if you aren't supposed to go back to who you were?
What if this season is asking something different of you?
Nature doesn't resist its cycles.
The trees don't apologize when they release their leaves.
Winter doesn't force itself to behave like summer.
Everything has a season.
Including us.
Yet we often expect ourselves to remain productive, energetic, emotionally available, and unchanged regardless of what is happening internally or externally.
And when we can't maintain that pace, we assume we've failed.
But perhaps the invitation is different.
Perhaps instead of asking:
“What's wrong with me?”
We begin asking:
“What is changing within me?”

Your Nervous System Needs Time to Adapt Too

Change—even positive change—requires adaptation.
And adaptation requires energy.
When your nervous system is already overwhelmed, transitions can feel even more intense.
This is why slowing down long enough to notice yourself matters.
Not so you can avoid change.
But so you can move through it with greater awareness.
You might begin by asking yourself:
  • What has changed in my body recently?
  • What am I needing more of right now?
  • What feels like it is naturally coming to an end?
  • Where am I resisting change?
  • What am I ready to release?
  • What new season might be quietly emerging within me?
You don't need to have all the answers.
Awareness is enough to begin.

You Don't Have to Force Yourself Through Every Season

There is a difference between moving through a season and fighting against it.
Sometimes our greatest work isn't pushing harder.
It's learning how to recognize what our body, nervous system, and inner world are communicating.
That doesn't mean we stop living our lives.
It means we stop abandoning ourselves while we're living them.
