SQUASH
Latin Name/Family: Cucurbitaceae

Metaphysical Properties: abundance, fertility, healing
protection, prosperity

Correspondences:

  • Feminine

Folklore: Squash maintains its significance in Native American folklore and history and is considered to be one of the ‘Three Sisters’ plants since corn, squash and beans were typically planted together. The dried gourds were also used as rattles in ceremonies and squash-blossom hairstyles were commonly used to show that Hopi maidens were eligible for marriage.  

Medicinal Uses: anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, reduce depression, improve eye health, improve skin health, aid digestion, repair cell tissue, reduce ulceration

Forms: edible flowers, cooked fruits, tincture, oil
